0/25/2001 (AP via RGTOnline.com) CHEYENNE, Wyoming –– “Attorney General Hoke MacMillan is cautioning residents to be wary of foreign lottery scams.

”The scams can include sales of bogus entries into high-stakes lotteries and con artists persuading victims over the phone to pay an advance fee to receive a prize, MacMillan said in a release.

”Wyoming’s Attorney General warns. In the scheme, victims are sold phony tickets for less than a few hundred dollars, which often lands the buyer on a `sucker list’ in which they are set up for a larger scam.

”After buying the bogus tickets, victims are later told by phone they have won a cash prize and will soon receive the first of several payments.
